Vepa pulla.

Recently I stopped using collgate toothpaste and started using neem stick(pulla = English?). In childhood when ever we go to our village Bhudathanapalli. My father used to take me to the big well in the morning. He used to pluck a bunch of vepa enulu from the neem tree near the well and give me to chew the buds at the end of vepa enulu and swallow it. It was cheedu(eng?) but I used to chew and swallow neem juice with out any disgust. I used to clean my teeth with neem stick. At home in Vizag used collgate toothpaste. I used to go to village twice, once for village festival after shiva ratri, and second for summer hollidays. So those are the times I used neem stick.

While working in Hyderabad. One day I went to do survey about state of parks in KPHB with few loksatta folks. A local person was showing where the parks are located. At one park there was a neem tree. It was around noon. He pluck a neem stick and started chewing and cleaning his teeth. He teeth and gums were absolutely healthy. He explained that his gums used to bleed. After Mantheyna Satyanaraya garu told him to do cleaning of his teeth when ever he sees a neem tree. He just followed it and he had beautiful teeth and gums.

While I used to teach iOS course for freshers in Ameerpet, I used to stay in Srinagar colony. There was a neem tree in front of the appartment. One day inside my mouth dots like thing happened, I don't know what it is, but it was discomfortable, since it is not normal. My classes were at 6:30AM so I had to rush. So after getting up, I took bath and pluck a neem stick and took auto, and used to clean while traveling in auto. By the time I reach institute, it was complete. In three days my mouth became normal. So I used occationally when my mouth interiers were not normal and it worked.

One day in a casual tea discussion, my college told about teeth sensitivity problem he had. I told him to use neem sticks. We both when in his car and found a neem tree in his area and took bunch of neem sticks. After some days he told that if he do with neem stick, it was ruff and its like bleeding, so he stopped using neem sticks. I thought he might not know how to do it with neem stick.

A month back I moved back to Hyderabad from Vizag. One day fter seeing a presentation about toothpastes and what they contain, I was shocked. Same collgate in US says like "Keep away from children bellow 6 years. In case children swallow take them to hospital". But in India you don't find any such warning with the same product. Next morning I could not use collgate. In the township I stay there are lots of neem trees. I went outside and pluck a neem stick and cleaned with it. From then on I have stopped using pastes and started using neem sticks. Its refreshing. First in the morning I chew and swallow the buds of bunch of neem enulu, which my father used to give me in childhood.

I told my wife to use neem stick and she is using. I saw it like she even does not know how much to chew. We need to chew the stick till it becomes as smooth as water color paint brush, but it was as rough as tiles brush. I showed her the difference. So before I suggest anyone to use neem stick, I have to tell that they need to chew till it becomes like a smooth water color paint brush. Better is to help them to do in my presense for first 2 times.

These days when I go to More or Reliance fresh, I am checking what is written on toothpaste boxes. Some tooth paste has the warning to keep them away from children. If it is not good for children of bellow some age, how is it good for us?

I feel good to be in a township with lot of neem trees :)
