What ever may be your capability, if someone does not recognise your capabilities and recommend you, it is not going to work.

People have this inherently to only accept the words from a person whom they trust. People make sure they don’t do things casually, to not erode the trust on them. People do recommendations which (they believe) will be useful to the people who trust them.
With the interactions that we have in the current systems, with out any effort are
- Education system
- Corporate system
We generally interact with people of our age. So we perceive life very limitedly, step by step, based on the age we are in. Our exposure to life is very limited. We generally have negligible scope to learn from others experience, because of the interactions limited to our age group and with our pre-occupations.

Our minds are in a race, they never have a break.
It is important to have a network of people with different ages whom you can connect, talk to, get recommendations for you. Things work magically.
When a person of your age recommends, things work in one way.
When a person of age 60+ recommends, things work in another way.
They are drastically different, it might look magical at times.
Not just for getting the work done, but to get better perspective of life spend time with different aged people whom you respect.
